PRISONERS TAKEN RV ALLIES. 552.423 CAPTURED IN 1916. A MILLION ENEMY CASUALTIES IN FRANCE. Iteeoived Jan. 5, S.i>s p.m. London, Jan. 4. Hon tor's correspondent at headquarters states tliat the Allies during 1910 took 582,423 prisoners, exclusive of captures made by the Roumanians in Transylvania, and by the British in Egypt and East Africa The French took 78,500 prisoners, of whom 21! 000 were captured at Verdun and 51.840 on the Nomine. The British took 40,500-, the Italians 52,250; tlio Russians 400,000, and the Macedonian army 11,173 It is estimated that the enemy casualties m France during 1910 totalled 1,000,000.

Received Jan. 5, 9.30 p.m. The Times correspondent at Athens states that, undeterred by the Government, the Royalist press is increasingly hostile, and is striving to provoke resistance to the acceptance of the Allies' Note. Rough reservists are parading the streets, and arrests of Venizelists continue. VENIZELOS RECOGNISED BY RUSSIA Pari s , Jan. 4. Russia is appointing a diplomat at Salonika.
