EXPORT OF WOOL.
PATEA AS A VALUING' 'PORT. A meeting of wool-growers was held at Patea 011 Tuesday, evening for, the purpose of supporting the efforts of Mr G. V. Prance, M.P., wlio lias been working strenuously for some time past in order to have Paten gazetted a valuing port in .connection with the wool-pur-chasing scheme set on foot by the Home Government. Mr. .1. S. Penrce said lie could not see why farmers should be forced to send their wool to Wangamii and have it carted to the showgrounds at a probable cost of 2s per bale, and then back to the shed for dumping purposes, when the one carting to the Patea shed would suffice for valuing, dumping and everything. He proposed, and it was carried —"That this meeting of wool growers and settlors in the Hawera, il'atea and Wiu-erlo? districts desires to respectfully urge upon the Hon. W. D. S. McDonald the desirability of declaring the port of Patea a valuing port. fo. wool, inasmuch as the contemplated passing over of the port ir this direction would prejudicially affect the future of the port and district, besides causing undue hardship to wool-growers and the ratepayers who have recently rated themselves for a loan of £8(1,000 for improving the port." The chairman said the Board would undoubtedly see to it that all improvements in the matter of lighting or anything elue were carried out rather than lose the revenue. It was unanimously resolved that the Harbor Board be asked to wire the chairman of the Wool Purchase Board to this effect.
