AN OFFICER PROSECUTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, ,Ta»-. 4. At tliG Police Court, Robert C'andlish Hacking, formerly Adjutant to the 3rd Auckland Regiment, was charged with failing to produce to the Audit .'Office a receipt foi pensions of £25 drawn on maintenance account. Defendant admitted the offence. The cheques were cashed at the hotel where he stayed. He stated that the money was used in the regiment's behalf ITe had been kept very busy in regimental affairs, and could not say what had become of the receipts. He had arranged to refund the money this month. The Magistrate said 'the charge was Jaid under the Public Revenue Act, and a fine of £IOO, as fixed by statute, was imposed. . i DEALING -WITH MILITARY DEFAULTERS. i' Wellington, Jan. 4. It is announced that all men failing to comply with the Military Service ( Act will be definitely brought to book. ,The authorities in the meantime are concentrating on the mobilisation of the 24th and 2ath Reinforcements, and as soon as this is completed they will deal with offenders.
