WAITARA BEACH.
To the Editor. Sir—On Mow Year's Day I attended I Tie seaside picnic at Waitara arranged by the improvement societies, and was very nuicll disgusted by tlie almost total absence of the business people of the town, and, upon making enquiries as to their whereabouts, was told that some were at the races, some playing bowls, and otheis were away having private-ly-arranged seaside pkhics elsewhere (presumably owing to the public gathering not being up to their standard of society). It seems a great pit J that the cil'orts of the hard-working people who .are endeavoring to do something for the good oi the town should not receive the support of those who should have tin? welfare of the town at heart. However,- it will be some consolation to those workers to know that their picnic was such a great success ancl is proof that the presence of the so-called leaders of the town is not necessary to ensura the success of any function. Apologising for the length of this letter,—; am, J.etc., ■ VERY MUCH DISGUSTED 1
