A SHOOTING ACCIDENT.
Whilst, out shooting hares last evening, about 7 o'clock, Mr. Harry Todd, a settler on the Frankley Road," 34 years • of apfi stumbled and fell, and as he was rising his gun became entangled i| -. some fern. In the process of disen-! ' tangling the trigger must have been sot free, with the result that the gun went oil, uul Mr. Todd received the whole of the .harge in his left hand andNwiat. In spite of his sufferings, he walked a. mile to the Frankley Road factory, where the manager, Mr. Waswo, rendered first-aid and drove the sufferer tc the New Plymouth Hospital. On examining the pujient, Dr. Walker found that the hand was so badly mutilated ' as to necessitate amputation, and the operation was performed satisfactorily. Mr. Todd, although suffering, from*, shock, bore up well, and it is hoped th&s : his progress will be favorable.
