NEW ZEALAND CHEESE.
IMPERIAL CIOVERNMENT'S OFFER ACCEPTED. AX F. 0.8. PURCHASE (By Telegraph.—Special' to News.) Wellington, La-t Night,. To-day's conference between the Minister of Agriculture aiul representatives of the cheese producers resulted in the acceptance of an offer by tile Imperial Government to purchase the output of cheese within New Zealand, but the terms of the arrangement will not be announced before to-morrow, when some representatives of Southern factories are to arrive in Wellington. The Imperial Government's original intention was to commandeer idle cheese in the nited Kingdom as indicated in recent cablegrams, the price being a fraction below lOd. per lb. This arrangement did not provide for shipment, and the difficulties that have arisen in this respect were the basis of representations made by the New Zealand Government. It:-. gave his attention to the matter in London, and the Imperial authorities have now undertaken to buy the eheese in New Zealand. The price will not be higher than the equivalent of the price formeriv fixed for payment in the United Kingdom. The Minister stated to-day, in answei to a question 011 the subject, that the price was lower thau luul been refused already during the oresent season bv New Zealand factories. Calculation suggests that probably the liguru will be in the neighborhood of B%d. per lb., but deductions tobe made from the commandeering price 1 in the United Kingdom cannot be calculated with certainty, without a knowledge of the details of the scheme, and this information is not available in the meantime.
