The meeting was open to all tudeU, territorials, and rilleineii from tin Yuranaki district, which extends is far as Waveiiey, .nid some ->()() entries were received froie all parts of the district, comprising 53 territorials, 33 riflemen, and 115 cadets, for each of whom tlieio were separate competitions. Keen interest was token in the shooting, ill the more commendable when the comparatively small ' prizes that were fired for is taken into consideration. Tho day was ideal foi shooting, w.hieh tool; place under military conditions, and, on the whole, some good performances were put up. The arrangements for the meeting-were good. Major Cox, ollicer in charge of the district, was range officer, and he was assisted on the firing-line by Captain Ryder and Lieutenant Crutch, Lieutenants Jennins and Keid having' charge of the trenches. The catering was capably looked after by the ladies of the Patriotic- Committee. Mr. H. Stocker acted as secretary, Croup Clerk Ferguson ien-| de-ring valuable assistance. 1 i\o. 1 MATCH. PATEA DEFEAT NEW PLYMOUTH. , A team from the New Ply mouth Rifle Club visited Patea on Saturday and fired a match for the Taranaki Shield, but were defeated by 23 points. Rifleman H. Oliver (New Plymouth) and Willis (Patea), with 9(1, >vere top scorers. The team was (hospitably entertained. Additional interest was attached to the match locally, as three of the members, Captain Hartnell, Riflemen Humphries and Davies, were firing their last ma **h before proceeding to camp.
