'('lie Ne,w n vur bowling tournament was brought to a successful conclusion yesterday.! The weather, ihopgh threatening at, time, remained fine, and did not interfere with play unii! the last tend of thrt -'r.al was being decided, when a shower made matte-- unpleasant. The final rouiiii of the sections and the ties were decided on the three greens in the morning,' but in the afternoon interest centred: . ,i the West End green, where the fc'.i.i-h'nals and riniils were decided. A New Plymouth Club rink, skipped by I, S. S. Medley, proved the winner, having gone through (lie tournament without a defeat. The winners were heartily Cheered ou their performance. Smart (New .Plymouth) played seven heads to decide Section C, tin New Plvmouth nian winning by 0 to 2. Allan (Inglewood) and .. T.\. Sole (Wc-t, End) played seven heads to decide the tie in Section A, the Inglewood rink winning by 7 to 2. THil SI'MI-FINALS. ... Smart (New Plvmouth) defeated A. K. Smart (New Plvmouth) b v 21) to IS. At the fflth head the srores 'were 20 to 13, but A. K. Smart put on 5 in the final head. The match between J. S S. Medley (New Plymoi'th) and J. Allan (Inglewood) proved very interest ing. being in doubt up to tie last. At the"2oth head the score was 18-10 in favor of Medley. When the skins went down to play for Hie last head Allan lay two up," but Medley, with a well-judged drive, carried the jack to l(:e ditch, and at the conclusion lay two, winning by 20 to 10. THE FINAL. New Plymouth (Bundle, Wood, Lusccmbe, Medl;,,', s.) 22 v. Nci Plymouth (flreen, Ford, i'ookes, H. Smart." s.) 20. The match between these club rinks produced some of the finest bowls seen at the tournament, Smart, scored two at each of the opening heads, but Medley, with a three and two couples in succession, was leading- 7-4 at the fifth head. At the ninth '.u-ad the scon, was 10 all. At Hie twelftn head Medley led 14-10, but he did net score at tin, next four, vhilst Smart, coring singles each time, oualLsed tho score at t■-«.• sixteenth head, when they lay 14 al.\ The next lour heads gave Medley a commanding lead, and wli.vi they went down to play the last head the score stood 22-14. To even up Smart needed i hatful, and ! very near got them, for the bead, which n-as played in the rain, gave him six, Medley thus winning by two. In the final of the Wanganui bowling tournament, London (Wanganui) 22 beat Gordon (St. Johns) 19.
