TURF TOPICS. j (By "Moturoa.") . Splendid acceptances have been received for the .concluding day of the Stratford meeting, and the good response by 'horse-owners is a distinct compliment to the handieapper, Mr. J. Henrys, junr., whose careful work has undoubtedly found favor with all concerned. Considering the number of horses that have "cracked up" on the hard going, the fields promise to be exceptionally good, ami racing should again be most interesting. A dozen figure in the Malone Memorial Handicap, and the winner will take some picking. Possibly Analogue, who met with interference in the principal handicap yesterday, and Zetes (who was finishing on well in the Douglas Handicap) may be the elect of backers. The Xgaere Handicap will probably see Tree Lucerne and Astor again fighting a stirring battle. The handieapper has not taken Moulu's performance yesterday too seriously, and in all probability the Wanganui horse will show to more ad vantage to-day. He stopped badly at a couple of fences in the Ohura Hurdles, but should improve with experience, and will be meeting Captain Miro'tm 191b. better terms in the Makuri Hurdles. The dozen carded for the County Hack Handicap include smart sprinters like Starcngo and Bivouac. Movement scored very easily in the Tariki 'Welter, and, being built on weight-carrying lines, may he best-backed in the Strathmore Hack Handicap, lliero may prove her most dangerous opponent. White Blaze appears to be one of the best welter "propositions" in the province at present, and although meeting Syntax on nib. worse terms than in the Midhirst Handicap, the public may be prepared to see the grey run prominently again. The fifteen paid up for in the Ladies' Purse are a fairly even crowd. Xormanby ran a gocd race yesterday, and will not have Waiotuie to beat to-day Cordon looks the best of the others.
A feature of the racing yesferdav was Owen McCarton's fine riding. He won tlie first three events on end witli Movement, Ina'n, and Crawford, and subsequently rode Syntax (second) and Tree. Lucerne (who was just beaten for a place in t : iie Douglas Handicap). Whatever lie yets a "leg up" on to-day will be well supported. Fortune rarely smiles 011 Percy Johnson, but yesterday lie bad the pleasure of leading in three winners—Movement, Captain Miro. and Mad:im Histori. If Fireless had landed the Borough Stakes, she would have paid a ''hatful " Only ,-C3 stood against her number on "the mill." i Master Lupin cost the public a tidy sum in the Stratford Cup, 110 less than £ll3l being invested upon him in the race. The number-board at Stratford has now been placed in a good position, and all particulars are plainly discernible from all parts of the enclosures. The board was capably managed yesterday.
