The programme includes novelty sports, donkey j races, aquatic events, children's races, i and a marathon. A treasure hunt, in ; connection with which quite a number of , valuable prizes will be hi 1 Men. should i .cause considerable excitvrooiit, The Citizens' Band will bt in attendance, awl, should add to the pleasure of the outing. Train and tram arrangements have been made to suit the convenience of, those visiting the beach. . The East End Committee have also; made arrangements for entertaining the •mblic on New Year's Day. The sports' programme includes a lrgh Ji*:n p, Rob Roy, American pony, an obstacle race, and a variety of .children's games. There will lie a show of babies born during the period of the war, and e, special class for soldiers' babies. .4 musieal pro. gramme will be contributed by Mrs. George's orchestra. K.vcursicn trains will stop near the grounds. Waitara's annual picnic will also be held on New Year's Day, and the beach should be crowded by local residents and visitors on that occasion. Numerous side shows will afford entertainment. At each of the beach events every convenience in the form of liot water and other requisites will be provided for picnickers. i.. ' mount; egmont. Opportunity will also be taken of the holiday by of visitors and local residents to make a trip to, and spend a day on, the slopes of Mount Egmont, which is now in. an ideal condition for mountaineering, BOWLING. Local bowlers arc also well catered for by a tournament which is to be held on Monday and Tuesday oil the three town greens, and has attracted large entries. RIFLE SHOOTING. On Tuesday ride shooting enthusiasts, and they are many the-c troublous times, will find much to interest them in the annual group meeting, which is to 1)0 held at the Waiwakaiho rangej It caters for cadets, territorials, anil members of rifle clubs. ; I
