CARRYING OF DAIRY PRODUCE
GOOD NEWS FOR TARANAKI. Austr.xlian-N.is. Cable Association. London, Dec. 20. The Board of Trade lias promised Mr. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward to make provision for the carriage of butter and cheese. , POSITION STJLL UNSATISFACTORY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. Mr.' Mas;-ey's report that the Imperial Board of Trade Will arrangi) for the shipment of butter and cheese is reassuring, .but it doe? not ciear up the position fully. If the British authorities propose to send additional ships for dairy produce, loss will occur before shipment is seciA*ed. Many stores aro full already, and there is an immediate dangc-r of deterioration in the ease of cheese. If room is ta be made for dairy produce on steamers already available, then meat will have to wait' at some points. Ministers here have no more information than is contained in published cablegrams, L'ut they hope that an early shipment of butter and Cheese will be possible. No developments are reported with regard to the purchases the Imperial authorities have made, and there is no further move towards any purchase at this end.
Mr. Massey lias sent the following cable to Mr. Lamb, secretary of the South Island Dairy Association, in reply to a message pointing out the probable" difficulty ahead in securing shipping freight for cheees:—"The President of the Board of Trade assures me that cheese will be shipped and presjiuro reliijfed."
