THE MAIN TRUNK SLIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. As a result of the construction of a loop line, the gap in the Main Trunkline has been closed up, and there is n6w no necessity for passengers to transfer from one train to another. The work of clearing Karaka cutting, where the slip occurred, will probably occupy some weeks, but the time-table will be adhered to by means of the loop line. ' SICK AND WOUNDED ARRIVE. Auckland, Last Night. Thirty-one sick and wounded, including four officers, arrived from London by a steamer yesterday morning. The southern soldiers left for their homes by train.
THE CHEESE SHIPPING DIFFICULTY. Dunedin, Last Night. • Mr. Massey has sent the following cable to Mr. Lamb, secretary of the South Island Dairy Association, in reply to a message pointing out the probable difficulty ahead in securing shipping freight for cheese:—"The President of the Board of Trade assure ine that cheese will be shipped and pressure relieved."
