HUTMENTS FOR FRANCE.

NEW ZEALAND'S GENEROSITY. The campaign which is being carried on by the Y.M.C.A. in New Zealand to raise funds for building and equipping rest and recreation i'utnuut,- for soldiers and sailors in England and France, is meeting with success. Balclutha has provided a hutment, Gore has provided two, and Timaru and Ashburton have each raised over .tliOO for the same purpose. A feature :>f Balolutlia's ell'ort is that a resident of that district has undertaken to meet the cost of maintaining the hutment for one year. Mr. J. Flewellyn King, oi\e of the Association's .secretaries, lias been on a tour of the southern districts, and met with most cordial receptions everywhere lie went, much'interest being shown in tile work of the Association among the soldiers, in camp anrl in ri- field. Local committees of townsmen were formed at a number of important centres for the purpose of raising funds and act as representatives of the Y.M.C.A. in connection with enquiries for wounded and missing soldiers, -which are constantly being made by relatives in New Zealand. Owing to its i'ar-re:.'h j:g organisation, the Association has been able in many instances to locate men more rapidly than would have been the case in the regular official round; and it is making this a special feature of its war work.
