PAHIATU£ CATTLE FAIR The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-onWative Association, Ltd., Paliiatua, report Ml their Supplementary Cattle Fai.-, ■.•eld on Thursday, December 21 as fo'lows: We yarded J6(30 head of catt'e and sold 1315. Tire quality of the cattle taken on the whole \vaa n long way above the average teen at recent cattle fairs in the North Island. The four year-old bullocks and teniale eut'e showed excellent quality, und wc" very favorably commented on by outside buyers, who were present from the Wanggnui, Hawke's Bay, Wa'rarapa, and Manawatu districts. Practical!? all Hie well-bred female cattle were eagerly snapped up by local graziers. The grown hulloeks went to the Manawntii and Wairarapa, with the exception ol one line of 40 good-conditioned four year-old steers, which were bought to fatten by a well-known local U.rmer With the reports ?oing about of the shortage of water in the Wairarapa and the continuous dry weather, the prospects for a good sale were not very bright at the outset, but vendors were there to do business, and though the first pen or two met with rather a dragging sale, buyers soon wanned up to their work, and prices, though not quite so good as at our initial fair in November, must be considered highly satisfactory, when we compare those ruling in other parts of the Dominion. The situation of Paliiatua seems favorable for cattle fajrs, as we are within easy distance of the Wairarapa, Manawatu, and Hawke's and as the land around these districts constitute some of the finest land in the Dominion, vendors are now beginning to realise the importance of offering their stock at our fairs. We effected the following sales:—Eight four-year steers, £l#; two ditto. £18; .1!) ditto, £l7 14s; 40 ditto, £l7 As lid; 50 ditto, £l7; 20 ditto, £ 17; 10 *ditto, £l7; 81 ditto, £1(1; 15 ditto, £lfi; 34 do., £l<>; 18 do., £ls Ma; 13 ditty. £ls 10s; 7 ditto, £ls ss; 21 three-;, ear steers, £'s, 38 do., £ls ss; S!) ditto, £ls !os;' 12 ditto, £l4 2s fid; 12 ditto, £l4 7s fid; 38 ditto, £l3 10<; 45 ditto' £l3 16s; 11 ditto, £l2 8s; 33 ditto, £l2 h"s; 35 ditto, £ll 17s fid; 10 ditto, £\i 10s; 17 ditto, £l-2 10s: 0 ditto, £l2 13s; 12 ditto, £ll 17s (id; 30 2-year cteers, £lO ss; 34 3-vcar P.A. heifers (good), £ls 12s 'Gd; 35 ditto, £l3 15:<; 44 2year Shorthorn heifers, £l4; 40 ditto, £l4 2s lid; 50 P.A. la-months >:!iifers, £lO ss; 23 ditto, £!) 15s; 28 2-year heifers, £lO 10s; 27 ditto, £S ,7s (id; 08 store cows, £11; 30 yearling heifers (pool'), £6 10s; 12 2-year steers, £lO 13s; lli ditto, £!); l(i yearling Heifers, £8 7s 6d; 7 ditto, £lO 10s; 10 cows and calves, £l3 10s; t) tows and calves, £l3 2s fid; 9 cows, £!) 8s; 5 heifers, i'ti 12s (id; 8 steers and heifers, £S 2s Gd; 1(5 cows and calves, £ll Is; 7 fat cows, £l2 10s; 11 fat heifers, £l2 17s Cd.
