OUR WAR EXPENDITURE.

■»— MINISTER'S STATEMENT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, December il'. Tiie sum of £12,708,103 had been expended 'by Xew Zealand in connection with the war up to October 31 last. In giving a statement on the subject today, the Acting-Prime Minister stated that the sum named did not include interest and sinking fund or. wai loans, nor war pensions, all of which items wore paid out of the Consolidated Fund, nor did it include some adjustments which the New Zealand Government might yet have to make witn the Imperial Government. These might amount to £2.01)0,000 or more. Of the total of £12,708,108, the items representing expenditure for war purposes total £l2,* 037,533 7s lOd, the balance comprising £'00.438 19s 7d for Belaian relief, £l"*fi 10s for New Zealand relief, and £20,000 under the Appropriations Act, 1014. The total cost to New Zealand of the military ocupation of Samoa to November SO'last was £-291,780 lis 4d. A statement giving the details was to-day made available under the heading of "Mobilisation and equipment of troops." The items are as follows:Camps, £3119 lis 9d; equipments, £8255 13s; postage, telegrams, tetc, £1240 4s 3d; advertising, printing, etc., £IOS 7s Id. Transport costs were as lollows: Stores, fuel, etc., for three steamers, £10,(172 6s lid, £13,377 3s fld and £14.897 2s Sit respectively.. Men returning to New Zealand, freight, etc., £40,103 165:.. rations, etc., £?/fi.855 8s (id; and medical costs, including examination fees and equipment, £2*086 Ills od. Other items of expenditure were:— Administrative expenses at Samoa paid by the New Zealand Government and refund asked for. £272 10s !M; mechanical transport, £1440 13s 8d; and purchase of horses, £073 os Bd.
