(By "Moturoa"). Messrs jYalsh and Qnarterman are making a.'descent on the West Coaat (South Island) meetings these holidays with Tyson\iml Lady" Middleton. The pair should pSy their way in those parts. The splendid acceptances received for the Taranaki Jockey Club's Christmas meeting could hardly have been bettered, and are a distinct compliment to the handicapper (Mr. G. Morse) and the Club. There should be excellent here on Tuesday and Wednesday next

Mare Antony and San Sebastian are the only defectors from the Auckland Cup, leaving fourteen in. J. Loive arrived at Jtllerslie on Friday with Chakwana, Menelaus, Seadown and Ayah. S. Rc-id arrived the same day with Chortle, Sheila, Multiplication and Vagabond. ; Reported from Auckland thaj J. Lambess is bringing Soldier. St. Fraiieis, Glittering Sands and Kauri King to the Stratford meeting. Jockster J. o',Sliest has been taking the baths at Rotorna in ihe endeavor to get down to 7.8 to ride Blackall in the Auckland Cup. With Arthur Ollivcr accepted for active service, and W, Bell for home service the "Highden" stable is in a bad way for jockeys at present. Rumor? say that L. H. Hewitt will probably fill the former's berth.

Scorching hot weather, a large attendance and interesting racing marked the Waipa annual meeting at Tc Awamutu on Saturday. Depredation (Deely) ended up favorite in the cup, and ridden in behind to the turn, came away and beat Munster. Te Papapa, Lady Penury and a good field rather easily in 2.8 1-5. The Plying Handicap fell to King Lupin, who scored in hollow fashion from Independence. The minor events were all well contested. Twenty-two lined up for the Waipa. Stakes, Bezmar carrying most coin. Bingham got the best of a straggling start, and was never headed, the favorite being second. Ulster was a betIcr favorite than Glucpot for the Piron-, fija Hurdles, but the winner turned up 1 in the little fancied Companion, who went to the front six furlongs from home, and led Gluepot and Ulster home. They made Alf Dclaval very "warm" in the Maiden, but he failed badly. Erroneous was in front at the bend, but ran wide, leaving St. Francis in front. British Arch (Goldfinch) then came with a great rattle, and caught St. Francis on the post. Ten were produced for the Oliaupu Handicap. Gin Shing obtained a big 'ead early, but tired to a walk in the straight, leaving the favorite, Corregidor to win easily from Sir Multifid. King Lupin (Conquest) made no race of the Kikihi Handicap, winning by four lengths from Lightning, who just beat Mill o' Cowrie for second money. On recent public form there seems to be no earthly reason why Blackall should be such a pronounced favorite for the Auckland Cup. This season he was pro duced at 'the Wellington Spring Meeting an<l with S..'t in a 7.7 minimum in the Wainui Handicap failed badly. In the Poarce Handicap, with 7.2 he again finished well back. His recent poor performances at Woodville require no mention, and taking all things into consideration a win for him in Tuesday's big race would knock strict followers ol' "form'' into the next street. Still, sucli things have happened, and they say that "money talks.'' We'll leave this unsatisfactory question at that!
