Prbbably General Maude could have taken Kut-el-Amara three .months ago. The Turks at Totah may lie expected to evacuate tho Essie lines,We have pushed on by turning the Knnnaiyat entrenchments on the other bank, but General Maude preferred not to move, as it would complicate the 'problem of food and water. General Maude lias now matched through the Essie lines, occupied the waterway at Shatt-el-Hai, and bombarded Sannaiyat. Two light railways are being built, and the river flptilla strengthened. The hospital arrange-ments-are being re-oryanised.
