| WAREA. j (From O'.ir Own Correspondents]. On Wednesday evening last, in the W'nroa Hall. Mr. Baraett hold his annual concert, when the majority of his pupils appeared before a gratified and crowded house. The stage presented a pretty drawing-room effect, which refleeted much credit on the artistic taste of those responsible for the arrangements. The programme was gone through smoothly, which showS J Jr. Barnett's ability 'in the handling of his work. The programme was as follows: Piano duet, Mr. Bamett and Master R„ Hemmingway; piano solo, Tlielnu Clothier; piano solo, Miss F. Corbett; trio, piano, violin and cornet, Messrs Bamett, Larking, Thompson encored); piano solo, Murray Clarke; piano solo, Mary Duggan, cornet solo, Mr. Thompson; organ solo, Clarence Parker. Interval. Piano duet. Miss F. Corbett and Mr. Bamett; piano solo, Tilly Clarke; piano solo, Nora Ruakere; piano solo, Eileen Eues; trio, piano, violin, comet, Messrs. Barnctt, Larking, Thompson; piano solo, Lily Pennington; cornet solo, Mr. Thompson (encored); trio, ( piano, clarionette, oboe, Messrs. Bamett, Ross, Julian (encored); God Save the King. Mr. Bamett, ip his opening remarks thanked the public for their patronage and said the proceeds would be devoted to patriotic purposes. Mr. Harnett deserves great credit for the way he has brought on his pupils. After the concert, dainty refreshments were handed round in prettily decorated flower baskets by the pupils. A large number stayed for the dance, six sets taking the floor. Mr. Barnct supplied the music, assisted by Mr. H. Larking (violin), Mr. Thompson (comet), which was greatly appreciated. Mr.*R. Julian made an excellent m.c.
*" TARATA. The ninth annual meeting of the Tarata Sheep Do" Trial Club was held in the Tar&ta Hall, about fifteen members being present. The president (Mr. A. Corkill) presided. The profits for the year amounted to £22 3s 4d. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. H. Lambert; secretary, W. Topping; treasurer, .T Drummond; committee, S. George, Paterson, Martin, Tainui; auditor, Mr. J. S. Wilson. The weather has been very favorable, and shearing is finished. Farmers are very busy putting in the turnips, etc.
The New Zealand Loan held their monthly sale last Friday and had a very good yarding. Mr Trimble, member of the Education Board, paid a visit to the local school last wesk, and Mr. E. J. Iblc, chairman of the. school committee brought several matters re school repairs, etc., under Mr. Trimble's notice. The local tennis courts were opened on, December i). Quite a number put in an appearance, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent. The Tarata Hall Committee held thefr annual nWting, Mr. A. Corkill presiding. The Hall now stands clear of debt, and the committee have £3 odd in hand. Many improvements have been made. A sceptic tank lias been put in, and our hall is up-to-date in every respect. A meeting of farmers was held last Friday re the Government's action in closing Waitara as a wool port. The Government's action was severely criticised, and a' protest has been forwarded to the proper quarters. The local school breaks up next Friday for the summer holidays. The picnic will be hold on Friday,-' December 22. The school concert will be held in the evening when a first class programme will be submitted. A danco will follow and all the profits go towards the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Tfc, distribution of school prizes will also tak§ place on Friday, December 22.
