The Waitara wharves have had a very busy appearance this week, the Wellington and Onehunga boats bringing iiv large cargoes. •Waitara and visitors are guaranteed a really good time on New Year's Day, when the East .and West Beach Improvement Societies are holding an amalgamated gathering at the West End beach.
It is a usual custom for the shipping companies to arrange to have la Home steamer in the roadstead about Christ-, mas-time, and, so as not to depart from this, the New Zealand Shipping Company's s.s. Rnahine is due to arrive herd on Christinas Eve.
