Mr C. V. Houghton, of Auckland, Wnn* lagei of tlip New Zealand Shipping Company, is at present on a visit to New Plymouth. A repent casualty list states that Private Ernest Keightley, con of Mr. 4. . luip'htloy, Mirthirst, died whilst ft prist, ner of war in Turkey. Mr Arthur Morton, of Inglewood, chairman of the National Dairy Association, proceeded to Wellington yesterday in connection with the cheene question. Mr. (i. H. Carrinpton, of Napier,' and fmmerly of Inglewood and Hawrra, is at present in New Plymouth on business ccnneeted with the New Zealand Trawling aiul Fish Supply Company, Ltd., of Napier. The funeral of the late Mr. Marl; Hopson took plaeo at Inglewood o» Wednesday. There was a large attendance of friends and representatives of local bodies and other institutions with ,which deceased had been connected, at t!i-* graveside, where the mortal remains 0: the deceased were lnid to rest. Mr. Hcpson's death occurred after a few di.ys' illness. ITe was born at Newbury, Berkshire, in IS-10, and was youngest soi' of a family of 12, all of whom predeceased him. Mr. Hopson was educated a'; ihe Newbury (Irammar Sclujoi, and h<: was afterwards apprenticed" to the joinery trade. Ho was employed fou some time in London, and afterwards beeume the agent of the Karl of llchester. of Abbotsbury, Dorset, whom he served fo,- 21 years. Mr. Hopson married Miss Elizabeth Westmacott, of Abbotsbury. His wife predeceseased him by only twelve days. Deceased leaves n family of five sons and oni daughter, and 15 grandchildren. Four sons are farming near Inglewood, and one is "Somewhere in France" with the nth Reinforcements. The daughter, Mrs. H. McMillan, lives at Ngaore. Mr. Hopson emigrated to Nt.\v Zealand with his family 30 yearn apo, making ihe trip in the ship Tongarlro. Tie was farming at Glenavon, Waiwakaiho, for two years, and he afterwards took up a bush section on the Bristol Koad, where ho resided until the time of his death. He was a Justice of the- Peace, manager of the Moa Farmers' Union co-operutivc store, and a member o f the Taransiki County Council for some years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Moa Koad Board'.
