MILITARY SERVICE.
APPEAL BOARD AT MASTERTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Mastcrtoii, Honda 3'. The 'Wellington Military Service Board opened a sitting here to-day, when six appeals were, dealt with. ' j Father Guinanc, a Roman Catholic I priest, applied for exemption on the grounds of occupation, undue hardsnip, and religious belief. * The Minister for Deience certified that appellant's occupation was of such a nature that the calling-up was contrary to the public interest, and the exemption was granted. Walter Smith, painter, appealed on all grounds. He stated he had served in the African war. He was the only j son at home, and his father was ill. I The Board decided that'-he be called up on February 27. The case of Frederick Dorset, farmer, of Te Whiti, who appealed on the grounds of occupation and undue hardship was adjourned till to-morrow. John William Colqulioun, farmer, appealed on the grounds -"of occupation and undue hardship. He stated he had two farms,,with a'mortgage. of £10,500. He was married, and it was hard to get labor and-.difficult to lease farms. The case was deferred ..pending a con-, ference of the Military Service Boards. ■ The appeal of George Thomas Tinley, mill-han', Carterton, On all grounds except' religious objection was adjourned till to-morrow. The appeal of William .Tosenh Allan, motorman, Greytown, on the of undue hardship, was dismissed. Appellant said he had two brothers at the front, and a third had enlisted, but had 'been rejected. He. had invested in a motor-car, and would lose money if lie had to serve. He contributed' towards the support of liis father.
