The scheme of the Salvation Army to provide homes for the sons- of New ZcalaTM soldiers who have fallen in the !«•:■.«• was explained by Stall'-Captaiii. F v.. "Since the inauguration of the scheme," said Captain Burton, "the Army has had an increasing number of applications for the accommodation of children orphaned by the war, and (h* pi eject, which was launched .on a comparatively small scale, is assuming extensive proportions. The house at Russell has accommodation for 10 boys, and arrangements are being made'for the erection of additions, so that 40 boys may be accommodated there. When the Ai my's scheme for orphans' homes is completed there will be establishments at Russell, Heine Bay, Island Bay, Ter.aika, and Christchurch." Captain Burton, said the.London board of the Army was considering the acceptance of a gift of, 2200 acres in'the Waikato, which it was-proposed to convert into an agricultural farm where boys with an, aptitude.'for the worn it jght be trained. Captain Burton said the object of his visit to New Plymouth was to interest prominent citizen's in the Army's scheme and to enlist their sympathy and support.
