THE LIBRARY (From Our Resident Reporter.) •Saturday. At the last meeting of the Stratford Borough Council, the question of payment for papers supplied to the library and reading-room was discussed. A motion by Cr. Lawson—"That the Town Clerk write to the newspaper proprietors that free copies be placed in the reading-rom," was carried. Twelve reolies arc to hand from all parts of the Dominion, each one pointing out that free copies these times were out of the question, but offering reduced rates, which run from 13s. to 265. a year. ITEMS. The sale of privileges in connection with the Stratford Racing Club'l Summer Meeting on January 1 and 2 was held at Afr. Newton King's rooms today. Both booths, inside and outside, Ml to the bids of Mr. E. Crabtree, Elt'ham. The holders of the Feathers, Messrs. ,T. McMillan and fi. Smith, lost them last evening in a challenge game, the challengers, S. Sanderson and C. Jackson, winning by 17 points to 14. The howling green is in good order just now. An accident occurred to a motorevclist named Yandle last evening. Whilst riding north of Midliirst, the cycle got out of control and collided with the bridge. Yandle was discovered by a passer-by some time afterwards, and brought into Stratford, where he received medical treatment. This afternoon he was much improved in condition. The capture of Roumania. is disheartening to our Allied armies. Don't be downhearted, hut brighten up your Christmas. You can do this by purchasing your Christmas presents at C. E. James' gTeat novelty store. Jewellery, trinkets, etc., for the ladies; toys fr«' children: and pipes, tobacco, etc., for the man at home and at the front.*
