Mr. C. .1. Belcher was elected chairman of the Elihitm County Council on Saturday. Mr. IT. .7. TT. Okcy, M.P., returned to N'ew Plymouth from Wellington on Saturday night.
A London cablegram states that Ldinbnrga I'iiivrrsit.v has ottered to confer a decree on Mr. Massev.
A Sydney cablegram states that Mr. Meagher has been re-elected Lord Mayor of Svdnev.
Mr. P. T). Payne, manager of the ironworks at Moturoa, returned to Xew Plymouth from Wellington on Saturday.
Complimentary reference was made to the good work done by the Kltham County Clerk (Mr. W. J. Tristram) at the Council meeting on Saturday,: and it was unanimously resolved to increase his salary by £3O.
