RACTXG FIXTURES Dee. 20, 27—Taranaki J.C. Christmas Dee 20. 27. 29—Manawatu R.C. Summer. Dec, 20. 29. Jan. 1, 2—Auckland E.G. Summer.. Jan. 1, 2—Stratford R.C. Annua). TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa"). Taranaki weights appear to-day. Stratford handicaps appear on Wednesday. Taranaki acceptances close on Friday next, Dec. 15. Alteration broke his "duck" on Wednesday, but the dividend was poor. Maniaroa's Fbilding form probably accounted for his "stunning" dividend at Wocdville. Kooya and Diavolo have returned from Sydney. The former rather more than paid her way. Chortle ran a great race in the Woodville Handicap, and but for getting

blocked would have won. I Northern reports state that Kilboy,! who had the ".rheumatics'' in 'Stralia, is still giving his trainer a lot of trouble. "Joe" Conquest is labelled as the possible rider of Lady Penury in the Auckland Cup. Don't iike it; do you? Handicappcr Geo. Morse has been able to leave his bed this week, and all being well, will attend to his strenuous duties during the carnival season. Several inquirers vfant to know who will be doing the. handicapping for the second day of the Stratford meeting. "Moturoa" doesn't know, though there are rumor?! Will Alt'. Coleman oblige? The Melbourne Cup winner, Sasanoff, is likely to be a firm favorite in the Great Northern Derby now that Ben Deeley is mentioned as his likely p : lot. Usually Antwerp wins his races from end to end, but at Woodvillo on Wednesday he eame from behind and won easily. There wasn't much behind him. however. After striking bad luck on the opening day, the crack hack sprinter Ayah lobbed it out on Thursday. Some good,--this neddy! How did Sea Lord come to pay the limit on Thursday? Punters are quickly frightened oft' when a horse goes down a couple of times when pitted against crack company. There was nothing startling to beat at Woodville. Kurapai is the neatest fencer on the coast, and his last five starts have resulted in three firsts urd two seconds. (jlcnroy was first out in the Borough Handicap on Wednesday, but at the turn was well beaten. Ni-xt time he will w>» for he always seems to sandwich a good race in between a brace of rotten ones Maniaroa had an army of hackers in the mud at Feilding, but failed dismally. At Woodville he beat better company, and, needless to add, paid several times the limit. What price form? Snub, one of the early favorites for the Auckland Cup, has been in a bad way lately, and as the result of injuries received while running in the paddock is not expected to sport silk for several months.

Mount Victoria is said to be an excellent performer over the small sticks in private, and judging by his improved running at Woodville this week he should not be long in scoring a decent win. They wived Bjorneborg all over, the Dominion on Wednesday, but Lowry's crack was never dangerous at any part of the Woodville Handicap, Form-up, after running two creditable seconds, scored handsomely on the second day at Woodville, and the "price" obtained was good, all things considered. In reply to "Sport": 0. Price rode Maniaroa in the Woodville Handicap, W. Ytung was on Antwerp in the Grandstand Hack Handicap; .). O'Shea on Bradamante in the Borough. Handicap; and W. Young on Alteration in the Welter. Marc Antony, who was tipped as an unlikely runner in the Auckland Cup, has been paid up for, and recent reports are that he will make the trip. Alteration (Elevation —Kduam) won at Woodville from end to end, but even then his party had to undergo the ordeal i>f a frivolous protest. Some owners make every post a winner! Toattre is looking robust and well, and considerable interest is attached to the weight that Ml. J. Henry will award him at Stratford. , The splendid entries received for both the Taranaki Jockey Club's Christmas meeting and the Stratford Earing Club's annual meeting assure Taranaki sportsmen of an enjoyable carnival at Christ'nast and the New Year. The ciass of horses engaged at the gatherings promises to be first-class, and includes Kewipoto, Square Deal, Toatere, Master Lupin, Astor, Interlude, Veto, Crawford, Maniaroa, Sunbird, Orleans, Mouhi, Minister, Tepapa, Marsinah, and other good performers. In addition, hacks will be well represented by The Golfer, Antwerp, Golden Grafton, Camp Guard, Analogue, Eoyal Chef, Munition, Starcngo, Movement, etc. There is> every inducement to keep Taranaki sportsmen in their own province this carnival season.
