After striking bad luck on the opening day, the crack hack sprinter Ayah lobbed it out on Thursday. Some good,--this neddy! How did Sea Lord come to pay the limit on Thursday? Punters are quickly frightened oft' when a horse goes down a couple of times when pitted against crack company. There was nothing startling to beat at Woodville. Mount Victoria is said to be an excellent performer over the small sticks in private, and judging by his improved running at Woodville this week he should not be long in scoring a decent win. They wived Bjorneborg all over, the Dominion on Wednesday, but Lowry's crack was never dangerous at any part of the Woodville Handicap, Form-up, after running two creditable seconds, scored handsomely on the second day at Woodville, and the "price" obtained was good, all things considered. The ciass of horses engaged at the gatherings promises to be first-class, and includes Kewipoto, Square Deal, Toatere, Master Lupin, Astor, Interlude, Veto, Crawford, Maniaroa, Sunbird, Orleans, Mouhi, Minister, Tepapa, Marsinah, and other good performers. In addition, hacks will be well represented by The Golfer, Antwerp, Golden Grafton, Camp Guard, Analogue, Eoyal Chef, Munition, Starcngo, Movement, etc. There is> every inducement to keep Taranaki sportsmen in their own province this carnival season.
