LAND FOR SOLDIERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 7. In the course of an interview, the Km:. James Allen stated that the area allotted under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act, 1915, t.o discharged soldiers now amounted to 70,490 acres, held by 198 men. Up to the present time 193,007 acres had been formally proc)a;med under the Act, which provides for 500,0C0 acres being made available. In addition to these areas 732,000 acres of Crown Lands may be applied for at any time either by discharged soldiers or the general public. For the purpose of essisting soldier settlers financially the Act authorised the Minister of Finance to raise a sum nob exceeding £IOO,OOO, and to date advances amounting to £21,333 had been authorised, and £11,990 actually advanced. , - .
