PUKEKURA PARK.
JIEETING OF BOARD, '-(he Pukekura Park Board met on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs iS. Percy Smith (chairman), C. E. Bellringer, V- Cock, R. C. Hughes and E. H, Tribe (lion, secretary). An application was made by the Director of the Technical College for the 'children to be allowed to bathe in the large lake each day between 1 and 2 o'clock.—lt wan decided to grant permissifii subject to certain restrictions. A donation' of £1 5s from Mr. Maunder, of Hamilton, was acknowledged with thanks. •■ it was decided to ask the Borough Council to extend the electric light around the big lake. The city bandmaster (Mr. F. W. (} McLeod) applied for the use of the grounds on Thursday evening, December 21, when a Christmas recital is being given by the band, the proceeds of which wili be devoted to the purchase of Christmat boxes for the men. In the course of his letter, Mr. McLeod said that apart from the fact that he had a definite object in view, he felt it was a duty not to allow such a season to pass without submitting something of a suitable nature in the musical line.—The application was granted. The Mayor (Mr. C. H .Burgess) wrote eacksing a cheque for £25. The donor said he wished the money to be used to provide better facilities for holding functions, such as Comforts Week, one of the most-needed improvements being a sufficient supply of hot water to cater for the people's requirements.—lt was decided to convey to Mr. Burgess the Board's best thanks for his donation, and a committee, consitsing of Mr. Bellringer and the secretary, was set up to anange for a hot water service. The Curator (Mr. W. W. Smith) reported to the Board as follows:—"Owing to the past very mild winter and spring months, the whole vegetation of the park shows fresh ami luxuriant growth. The ivdrk of the staff during the past month has been chiefly that of mowing grass, cleaning up and burning 1 the drier accumulation of rubbish in the park. Attention is at present being paid to mowing and burning the areas of of rough grass at the head of the upper and lower kites. Considerable time has been devoted to edging and cleaning walks, and slipping the box hedge around parts of tiie lakes. Unfortunately' the stealing of rotes hus been rampant for some time, Mrs Avery has sent a bug of bulbs to plant in the park. Two anonymous liiinds also sent parcels of native plant su-cis. Mr, Rookel brought a small boy of New Zealand orchids collected in Ui l ; Rir.ib.ine bush. They have been planted if. suitable places in the park, where they may be easily seen and studied when in bk'C.m. Mr. C. List, who was latn'y in Now South Wales, collected a suantity of Australian plant seeds and presented them to tjp? park. They have recently been sown." Continuing, Mr. Tribe said the matter was placed in the hands of the police, but without result. The globes were the private pro ptity of-Mr. A.
