GROCERS' ASSISTANTS' AWARD.
WORKING CONDITIONS. A new award has been granted by the Arbitration Court governing the wages am>. conditions of employment of grocers' assistants in the Auckland .Industria,' District, of which Taranaki forms a part. The award came into operation on December 4. 1016, and will remain in force until November 14, 1018. Subjoined is a summary of the terms of the award. HOURS AND WAGES. The hours of \ work shall be those pro vided under the Shops and Offices Act, ".JiOS, and its amendments. The minimum rate of wages shall be paid to assistants as follows: From 15 to' 1(1 years cf age 10s per week; l(i to 17, 15s; 17 to IS, £1 2s (id; IS to 10, £1 10s; 19 t.u 21) £2; 20 to 21 £2 7s (id; 21 to 22 £:' 12s Cd; over 22 years of age £2 17s (id.
POSITION OF DRIVERS. Drivers over 22 years of age sliall be .Mud £2 17s. 6d, "and drivers between the ages of 16 and 22 shall be paid acoevding to the scale prescribed for ass>i?tants under 22. An assistant may act as a driver, or a driver as. an assistant. The term driver shall include motor drivers. No deduction from the week's •wipes shall be made for public holidays. I<ine lost by a worker through Ms illness or default may be deducted from Ms wages. The proportion of boys or youths shall be one to three (or fraction of three) assistants over ?.0 years of age. For the purpose of this clause tlie employer is to Be reckoned as an assistant, so long as he is substantially engaged in the work of the 'shop. Where an employer carries on more than one shop, each shall be deemed to be a separate business. HOLIDAYS. ' The following shall be the .recognised holidays: New Year's Day, the day following such day, local show day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labor Day, the Kins's Birthday, Christmas DaY and Boxing Day. ~ ..,;.„.... .
