DISTRICT NEWS.
T7RENUI. (From a Correspondent.)' The first entertainment given by the L.T.L. was held on December 1 in the liremii Hail. The president (Miss Jean Dunbar), the secretary (Master Lorris Sowry), the treasurer (Miss Kathleen Gilliver), and the superintendent (Mrs. So wry) were seated at the table. The concert opened with a piano and violiit duet by Misses B. and Z. Sowry. Mr. Lawrence then gave an interesting address; then a Temperance song, entitled ''We'll Never, Never Touch the Wine," was sung, after which the L.T.L. company rules, mottoes, rally cries, and salutes were, given, also parliamentary rules were repeated. Then a general report of the work done by the L.T.L. was read by the secretary, after which the following items were rendered:— Memory gem, Master Vincent; vocal solo, Miss M. Bleakley, as "Charity"; recitation, Miss Gilliver (encored); vocal solo, Mis? E. Waite; recitation, "A Child's Thanks," Miss Zelnia Sowry; dialogue, "The Mouse Trap," eight little children, the Misses Jean and Lizzie Handley, M. Vincent, E. Taylor, M. Bleakley, Masters J. Vincent, Norman and B. Taylor, forming the mouse trap, while Misses E. Glentworth, 0. Waite, and Zelma Sowry performed the part of the mice; recitation, Miss Zaidee Sowry (encored); vocal duet, Misses Gilliver and Dunbar; recitation, Miss Graham; pianoforte duet, Misses E. and 0. Waite; recitation, Miss Shing. During the interval pledges wer<; signed. Then followed violin and piancN duet, Misses B. and Z. Sowry; recitation, Miss J. Smith; .pianoforte duet, Misses Dunbar and Waite; chorus song, "Some Glad Day," by the L.T.L.; recijtion, Miss Zaidee Sowry (encored); vocal solo, Miss M. Bleakley; recitation, Miss Zelma Sowry; dialogue, "The Four Seasons," Miss Smith (Spring),' Miss Gilliver (Summer), Miss Dunbar (Autumn), and Miss E. Shing (Winter);'vocal solo, Miss E. Glentworth; recitation, Miss Bleakley; pianoforte solo, Miss Zelma Sowry; recitation, Miss E. Shing; vocal duet, Misses J. Smith and E. Glentworth; recitation, Miss L. Handley; pianoforte solo, Miss K. Gilliver; vocal solo, Miss J. Smith. '"Goodnight" song and "God Save the King" brought a very enjoyable meeting to a close, after which refreshments were handed round. The accompaniments were played by Misses B. Sowry and R. Hunter. During the meeting Miss Jessie Smith (vice-president) proposed, and Master Lorris Sowry seconded, a vote of thanks to Mrs. Rowe and all those who kindly helped tc make the L.T.L. a success.
