Amidst the fine array of motion piclures comprising the new programme to be screened at the Empire to-night tlio unique- scenic picture, "A Trip to Roto rna,' sliouid prove a conspicuous success. It is claimed that for every New Zealandor who goes to view the thermal marvis of his country, there are three Americans and two Australians, but possibly the presentation of so beautiful a series of pictures as is contained in the lilm will serve to awaken the homefolk to the wonderful attractions of the Ilotorua district. The filyi is comprehensive to a degree; it depicts not only thermal scenery, but interesting scenes connected witn the native life of these regions. The graceful poi dance by Maori women, the diving : of the pickaninnies for pennies, canoe race on the lake, Maori women cooking in boiling cauldrons, all these aspects of native life are shown. Among the most beautiful of many striking scenes depicts! may be mentioned the Whakarewarewa gevscrs in eruption, views of Ohinemutu. steaming clifl's of Eotomahana, and the Hanmrana Spring, while the closing picture, sluiset ov<;r Lake Rotorua, was a veritable triumph of the photographer's art. As an educative factor, this series of pictures possesses unique value, and children, as well as adults, should make an effort to see it. There are several film supporting films including "The Hoyden" (Vitagraph drama), a number of the popular "Pathc Gazette," a humorous "Mutt and Jell'" cartoon, and also a comedy and industrial film. This selection will be screened to-night and to* morrow only.
