j PRAISE FOR NEW ZEALANDERS mentioned in despatches. i : • i London, - Dec. 1. General Murray's dispatch, dated October I, coycrs the operations in Egypt from June 1 to September 30. General Mult ay, in detailing the operations at Quatia, praises tlie woilc of the ! Australian nnd New Zealand mounted men and Australian Light Horse, who wore employed in observing and harassing the enemy',s advance. The complete result of the operations was the decisive defeaj of 18,000 of the enemy, including: l. r >,oflo rifles, and 40U0 taken prisoner. The total enemy casualtics were about !)000. Major-General Chauvel proved himself ft resolute and resourceful cavalry leauw. Ihc brunt of the whole fighting ieii upon the Australian and New Zealand Mounted men. General Murray says he cannot speak too highly of the gallantry, steadfastness and untiring energy these fine troops have shown at all times. Patrolling duties along the western edge of the canal zone were entrusted to two Australian squadrons. The whole force displayed the greatest zeal, tact, and resource, with the result that the western canal zone can bo said to be free of all unauthorised persons. Attention is directed to the devotion of the Australian and New Zealand nursing services. A subsequent dispatch mentions Colojiels Chauvel, Chavtor, Koyston, Antill, 'Meredith, WaU-he, Dowries. Wilson, Fuller. Onslow, Maygar, Grant, Dixon and Croll all Australians, and Colonels Maclcesy, lundlay, and Meldrum, New Zealanders, also ninety-five Australian ofli - cers and men and eight nurses, and twenty-ono New Zealand officers and four nurses.
