STRATFORD.

GENERAL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) November 30. The lad (C. Burgess) who was run down by a motor-car on Wednesday still lies in a dangerous condition in the Stratford Hospital. * To-day a second accident occurred in town, when a trap, driven by Mr. A. Mtithieson, of Kaponga, collided with a ear. Mrs. Mathieson was thrown out, and rather badly hurt, her injuries necessitating her removal to the hospital. The performers engaged in the pantomime, "Beauty and the Beast," had a '■" royal" reception last night, the principals and others receiving floral and confectionery gifts from enthusiastic admirers. From what one hears, the entertainment to be given in the Town Hall on Wednesday next will draw a big house. The principal performers are from

Hawera. The concert will be in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.

The New Plymouth bowlers are expected to arrive here on Thursday next. It is hoped that sufficient players to form seven or eight rinks will be present. One of the judges at the Stratford Show spoke in high terms of the attention and assistance given him by the officials, who had done much to make his stay a pleasant one. His opinion seemed to be general among visiting judges and exhibitors. He also considered Stratford most fortunate in the possession of such a tine show ground, which, with very little beautifying, could be made very pretty and attractive. He suggested the planting of r.ative and other trees, which would not only beautify, but would provide shelter.

Mr. J. \Y. Burke, of Eltliam, yesterday disposed of his well-known horse Fritz, who added to his long list of honors by securing reserve championship in the harness classes. The new owner is Jlr. W. Cleaver, of Hawera, and the price paid was 100 guineas,

Visitors to Stratford this week will focus their attention on the show. A really fine show can also be seen m the windows of C. E. James, who is selling gn.uine handbags, suitable for ladies and young girls, at prices that are lowest and of quality that is highest.*
