PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE,

A meeting of the New Plymouth Patriotic Committee was held last evening. The Mayor (Mr. C. IT. P.urgcss) presided, and there were a'so present: Messrs. W. J. Chancy, J. Paton, 0. ,T. Hughes, C. Carter, A. H. Giiis-on. <l. E. Bellringer, .f, E. Wilson. J. X. Hill, ,1. Clarke, .T, Mcl.eod, L. M. Monteiith, C. Sadler, and T. C. List. A report was received from the Taranaki War Relief Association, dealing with the work of the Association during the past month., A vote of thanks was pas-"d to the Hon. W. C, E. Carncross, M.L.C., for his interesting and instnH U j a Idress ir. New Plymouth last week. H v.as lcported that as a result of Mr. Carncross' lecture the sum of £1 17s (ic, U:e net proceeds, had been handed to the treasurer of the Wounded Soldieis' Fund.

Mr. J. It. Hill reported that there were three returned soldiers at present in the hospital.

The Comforts Committee was authorised to spend up to £2 per month in providing i!:-> men leaving lor camp with fruit to eat an the train.

I'.'.ton) presented the following statement concerning the financial position of the committee:—Receipts: Bv talauoe as per last statement, £O3O 0* 2d; 11. Cocker's staff, for Y.M.C.A., £1 !>?; Westown Committee, for Wounded Soldier?, £lO 15s (id; Mrs. R. C. Hughes, Y.M.C.A., .CI Is; refund for grazing (wounded soldier.s), 2s (id; Hon. Cnrneross' address, ,-Cl 17s (id; Wotown Committee, Jtl 1-s Od. Total, ;CG"."> 18s ."id.

Disbursements amounted to £!US -is 3d, leaving a balance of £O3O 14s 2d. The balance in hand for the \.M.C.A. was .€(>!! 14s 2d., and the old Patriotic Fund account stood at .•C2sl> 10s. The. meeting decided to hand .C.'.S Ms to the 'J'liraniihi War Relief Association for administration. It was resolved to remit £M from the old Patriotic fund account to the Salvation Army. >
