RAILWAY BRIDGE DAMAGED.

TRAFFIC DISORGANISED. The heavy rain yesterday mused the rivers tc swell considerably. Unfortunately a pier of the railway bridge over tlie Whenuakura River, to the southward of Ratea, was washed away, and the mail train for the South was unable to cross yesterday morning, with the result that traffic was disorganised. A few pf the carriages of the mail train were pushed over the 'bridge, but the engine could not cross. Subsequently 'the rest of the train was got across the bridge, and the journey resumed. The up 10.4") and I.la trains were joined together, and reached Hawera at 2.20 o'clock. Repairs were carried out to enable the up mail to get through.—Star.
