BELGIAN APPEAL.

i BY THE SALVATION ARMY. During the first week in December the Salvation Army thr6ugliout New Zealand will devote ita energy to relief work dn behalf of the distressed Belgians, especially the Belgian children. The story of the little kingdom that saved Europe will thrill all future generations. We must do something to help them in their hour of need. Thousand? of 'Xmas sacks (gift envelopes) will be posted and circulated all over the coimtrj with the request that those who receive them will enclose in the '"Xmas. Sack" a donation foi the starving children of Belgium, and post as return the sack to the Salvation Army officers in the nearest town before December 8. The Salvation Army has special facilities in Belgium for distribution oi relief, and the whole of amounts subscribed by the public and entrusted to the Salvation Army is used on behalf of those suffering, and in need, without any deduction of expenses whatever. The full amounts given will reach the Belgian sufferers. General Booth has ap* pointed able and experienced officers to control the relief work in the distressed | country. A special feature of the Army's system of relief is to not only temporarily assist, but as far as possible provide means whereby those able may do something for themselves, and so make the benefit of a more lasting character. Those Solvation Army officers stationed in Belgium when war was declared remained at their posts, and have labored unceasingly to minister comforts and help t-J the poor women and children and the aged and helpless, and they still continue their labor of love under the most | trying circumstances. Considering thess facts there should be a spontaneous and generous response to help those who sacrificed all in the interest of our liberty—these brave people in the little kingdom of Belgium who in spite of all t.ha enemy ha: done are as great as ever. Donations, large or small, should be posted to Adjutant J. Hultquist, or Mr. S. Buick, Salvation Army Quarters, Eliot street, New Plymouth. All donations from 10s upwards will be acknowledged in the local papers at the close of the appeal if the donors' name and address accompanies their donations.
