" During the discussion Mr. HarkneaJ said that since the commencement of the war freights had increased from 15 per cent, to 700 and even 800 per cent. The conference also adopted the fol< lowing remit: (1) That no company be registered as a New Zealand company, or continue on the register as such, unless three-fourths of the shares are held by British subjects, either in their own right or on behalf of other British subjects; (2) that the annual list of share' holders filed with the registrar of companies shall also state the nationality of the shareholders; *(3) that in the case of a new company, the application for shares shall set out the nationality of applicants; (4) that in; all transfers ot shares the nationality both of the'transfcior and transferee be declared and, in the case of the transferee being agent or trustee, the nationality of the actual owner be declared on the transfer form. The Chambers of Commerce Conference elected the following officers:— President, Mr. James Macintosh (re* elected); vice-president, E. Anderson (Auckland); executive, H. S. Brown (Cliristchurch), W.
