TURF TOPICS. (By '"Moturoa.") Taknpunii to-day. Concluding day at South Cantemnry. Feilding races on Wednesday ind Thursday. Royal Irish might beat Depredation at Takapuna to-day. Hawera. punters are saving up for Veto at the Feilding meeting.

That speedy beginner, Bimeter, 'will be "hot orange" in the Feilding Stakes. Tlio Deeley "double"—Depredation and Kitty Bellairs—will be very warm at fakapuna. Da Worcester's form at Ellerslie, it should not be hard to pick a hot favorite in the Maidqji Hurdles to-day. Fred. Tilley generally lms something hot for the Trial at Feilding, and next week it may be the imported Acre, Lady Glen can travel very fast for a short journey, and she will have many friends at the Takapuna meeting. Balboa, who changed at the Sew Zealand Cup meeting, has been scratched for Auckland engagements. The Mystery is in work at Hawera. This prad is well named, as none of the local prads can go slow enough for him.

A crowd of scribes are, howling about Sasanoff getting "loaded" with S.B in the Auckland Cup, but if he goes to the nost, he will be a solid favorite.

Austin, with Traill up, tried to win the Hurdles at Ashlmrst all the way, but lie tired badly in the straight, and could only finish third.

Tiu; winner turned np in- Nicomar, another of the Spalpeen breed of jumpers. Frank Lind had him in good nick, and he appeared to win with something in hand. There was a stirring finish in the Pohangina Handicap, the placed horses being almost in line. Gaycium led until well inside the distance, where Moutoa Queen challenged, and won bv a head. Bradamante was travelling fast in third place, and Marimba finished next.

Another defeat wejit down to the distredit of Lady Middleton on Wednesday. She was well backed by her party, and bad H. Young in the saddle, i)ut was never dangerous at any part of it.

Lady General (General Latour—Romola) gave Roy Reed an easy ridj in the Flying Handicap. First out, she ivas never headed, winning comfortably from Gold-bearing, whe was in second berth all the way. Ilnshman did not begin with his usual brilliancy, and finished well back.

Montana (O'.Sliea) was picked out as the correct thing in the Aslihurst Cup, but gave his backers a poor run for their coin. Marsinali made the pace to the home bend, where Rose Pink took command. Square Deal (Nodder) was running over everything at the 'out just failed to rcavh Rose Pinky Montana, was a fair third, and Want, Ararat, and Silei'.us followed. On the form shown, Square Deal looks like running into first money at any moment—perhaps at Fcilding next week. The Golfer, an aged grey gelding by Wait-a-Bit —Actress, hailing from 'Stralia, paid a fine price when A. Olliver pushed his home in.front in the Komako Welter. Rewa Hewn (W. Price) was beat backed, but did not finish in the first half-dozen, Headache ran as if he needed a tablet, or somo "hurry-up" dope. (('Shea dashed off smartly on King's \rmor in the Maiden, but over the last lit Probation, I.ndy Edith, and Flying •■■uir ulj ran past. Probation (Downro—Culmination) scored a, narrow, i j t meritorious, victory,

| I".'? public sorted out Botanist and IDe'.aval as the best of the Bauj cr Welter field, and their judgment k :d correct, Pronk gelaval and

Rushabye. carried the field along at a torrid pace until well in view of home, \vhe?v Olliver brought Botanist along with a well-timed run, and too-k first money rather cleverly. Bradamante was again a, close third, and should win a race very soon.

Bairnsdale, who was beaten out of a place earlier in the day, met a poor lot in the Gorge Handicap, and won well. Splendidus anticipated the rise ot the harrier, but was done with at the home turn. Vladineau and Xgarna were left In front, but Bairnsdale finished gamely, and won by a length. Te Onga is one of the most-discussed candidates in the Tiri Hurdles at Takapuna.

If Homeric leaves the mark at all smartly, he may have to be reckoned with in one of the sprint events at the Takapuna meeting. Soultane ran two good races at the Auckland meeting, and should do better with Dei-ley up next start.

The Golfer and Bairnsdale were (hot orders in Wellington on Thursday, and the good prices they paid must have hurt the Bar Vons severely. Martian's fame as a stallion received a decided lift when his progeny won both the Melbourne and New Z„>iiaud Cups the other day.

The hurdler, Record, who scored at Waverley, is reported to be very fit, and will race at Feilding next week.

Only two first favorites scored at the Aslihurst meeting.

Auckland papers state that Pateonga has been turned out for a long spell. The Toff is such' a. sterling stayer that even with !)lb, above weight-for-age he may be hard to beat in the Auckland Cup. Tree Lucerne is being weighted as a spent light. Wonder if be will ever ■•flicker" again? Bon D'Or was backed all over the Dominion on Thursday, but had to put up with second berth, All Serene ing the '''moral'' by a head. Another hot order —away from the cou.se, as "'ell as on it— ivas Week-End, and the same narrow margin set backers tearin;' their hair Rinatorm and Oxen'.uue helped matters a trifle, but the layers had a couple of lu"ky escapes. Xow that Sasanolf and Kilboy are li'-ely to race in V w Zealand thi.; summer, some of the home ''champions" will need to look to their laurels. Sasanoff won more in stakes in a couple of months in 'Stralia than did Desert Gold during the whole of last season. And there should be more fpr the Melbourne Cup winner feere.
