WHANGAREI APPEAL CASES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whangarei, Last Night. The Military Service Board commenced its sitting in Whangarei to-day, Mr. Burgess, S.M., presiding, with him Messrs. G. Elliott and John McCaw, Major Conlan acting as counsel for the Department. Seevn appeals were before the Court. The first three cases were those of three young men engaged in farming, by name Syckinley. Robert John Syckinley said lie was working on his father's farm. His father was in good health. The conduct of the farm devolved upon appellant and two sisters. If he went to the war it would mean the ruin of his farm, as the other brothers had their own properties to look after, and would not help.. Thomas William Syckinley, another brother, single, had a farm of 117 acres, and represented that it meant a great personal loss if lie went to the war. It was not possible for the other members of the family to york the place for him.

Charles Syekinley said he was married in June, 1915, and had a wife and two children. He also objected to go for a similar reason. He would have to leave liis place of lbO acres without adequate management.

After hearing evidence at groat length in each case, the Court refused exemption in the cases of Robert John and Thomas William, but adjourned that of Charles for a month.

Frank Morwood Eccles, a fancy goods dealer, appealed against being compelled to leave Jits business without proper provision, for management. The appeal was dismissed.

Jolin amilton, of Hikurangi, butcher, appealed against leaving liis business. Three months' exemption was allowed liim.

C. R. Beehre, carrier, was granted two months' exemption time, so as c«jt to buffers with his wool-carthyj.
