IMPROVEMENTS AT NGAMOTU.
COTTAGES AXD PAVILION. The foreshore at Xga-Motu has hem for some time past the scene of active building operations, and at present a large number of carpenters are engaged in erecting summer residences for the accommodation of townspeople and * visitors who desire to spend a period of the warm weather at the «easide. There aiV at present '24 cottases erected oi in course of construction on the foreshore at Nga-Motii. Of this number, ten have been' built or ordered this season, and five have been constructed for tile Nga-Motu Foreshore Improvement Committee. The sites are arranged in accordance with a town-pfenning scheme, and the contour of the coastline is followed. The new cottages consist of three rooms and a verandan suitable for sleeping (purposes. They are well built, compact, and admirably suited for summer residences. Arrangements have been made for the provision or an up-to-date drainage system, spe* eiall.v designed for the purpose by Mr. Pv. Day, the borough building superm* tendent.
A handsome pavilion is being built by the committee on the| forcshcß. Thi plans provide for a wooden* building with special conveniences for bather! and visitors. The pavilion will be divided into several distinct apartments, tc be reserved for the use of lady and gentleman bathers, a'lso for boys ami girls. Cold showers and lavatories will be installed in each apartment. Fine wide verandahs, arranged on the three sides of the building, will be set aside for sun-bathers. On the first floor, which will be reached by a wide staircase, the tea rooms will b"e situated. Provision will also be made for the supply of free hot water for picnickers. The pavilion will be set on a concrete foundation, which is now in position, and a novel effect of the exterior will be obtainei. by reason of the fact ttial the design is an attractive one, and that, above tiieh four feet of dark* stained weathcr-hotirdmg the walls will be of poiiite, and the roof will be of nuvlthoid. It is expected that all the buildings under construction will be completed before the summer season, is at >ts zenith.
