Perfect weather conditiona prevailed yesterday for People's Day, consequently there was a very large attendance at the Hawera showgrounds, the gate takings being £320. The crowd commenced to assemble early, but there was very little congestion, as the various sections of the show had eaeli their-devotees, and it was only when the parade attracted the majority to the ring-side that one gained an idea of the crowd's size. The parade was a magnificent spectacle, and gave convincing evidence of the importance that is now being paid to the various breeds of cattle. The judging >of the remaining classes was proceeded with expeditiously, and by dinner-time all but the competitions were completed. The whole arrangements for the show were good and refleet great credit on tht president (Mr. F. Mills) and the officials, especially the secretary (Mr. H. A. Lennon), who had every detail at his finger-tips and attended to every inquiry with unfailing courtesy. During the afternoon the Ha wera Bross Band, under Bandmaster McClellan, rendered a fine programme of music.
Mr. Banks (of Cambridge), one of the judges in the light horse section, said that remarks made by Air. Crowther last year on his return home had prepared liini for a great display o'f harness horses, but they were even better than he had expected to see. Saddle horses were good, hacks and hunters being quit" equal to what one would see at othei shows. The pony jumping was phenomenal, the judge stating that he had never/ witnessed anything like it before. He expressed his disappointment of the thoroughbred classes. J. W. Burke's well-known performer Fritz added the harness championship to his othc achievements, li. Short's Scout being champion saddle horse. THE COMPETITIONS. The jumping was distinctly good, tirenui had a good say in the prize list, Leo O'Neill's horse Mac, ridden by Dan Stockman, winning the big event for steeplechase style, and being third in the wire jumping; A. H. Ilalcombe's Larrikin, ridden by R. Rooks, being second in the latter competition. The following is the prize list: —
