ALLEGED THEFT OF SHEEP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Marton, Last Night. At the Marton Court to-day, Rudolph E. Kreegher was commited for trial 10 the Supreme Court Sessions at I'almcrston North for the alleged theft of SO Romney ewes (in lamb), valued it £14)3 8s Id, the property of the trusters of the Westoe Estate. Bail wns allowed, self in £IOO, and two sureties of £l-00 each. The charge against Charles E. Kreegher was adjourned to November 29. PRESBYTERIAN CONFERENCE. Wellington, Last Night. The Presbyterian General Assembly opened this evening, Rev. U r . .Seorgie, the retiring Moderator, conducting the preliminary services, ot which there was a large attendance. The Modera-tor-elect (Kev. B. M. Ryburn) was then formally inducted to office, and delivered an inaugural address on "The Personal Element in C!rr>-.l\inity: Some of its Implications." The Assembly will enter upon its business sessions to-morrow. MEETING OF MODERATE LEAGUE. Wellington, Last Night, At the annual meeting of the Moderate League, Mr. D. M. Eindlay was elected president. The following resolution was carried: ''That this meeting would again urge upon the Government the desirability of setting up a responsible and impartial Board of Inquiry to examine into the liquor question from time to time, with a view to recommending competent licensing legislation for consideration after the war."
