The many friends of Mr. D. Hughes, late of Kapuni, will regret to hear that his condition is very serious, and causing his relatives great anxiety. Word has been received that LanceCorporal Bert White has been invalided home 011 account of bis wounds, and is returning to New Zealand by the Malieno. At their last meeting the directors of the Mells and Melrose Dairy Companies appointed Miss Amy Beamish their secretary, in succession to the Into Mr. J. A, Tiirton. Mr. Fowler, Government Auditor, left yesterday for ISlenheim. He will be engaged in that district for a couple of months, and then expects to return to faranaki to complete his work here early next year. It is understood that Mr. A. ITolmes has resigned his position as secretary and director of Abraham and Williams, Ltd., in order to take over the management of tho Xort'a Auckland Co-opera-tive Auctioneering Company, whose headquarters are at Whangarei. Mr. A. Hatrick, of Wiing.mui, when on his way to Pipiriki on Thursday, was taken seriously ill, A special steamer was sent 'to bring him to Wanganui. The latest report shows that Mr. He.trhk's condition has slightly changed for the better. Mr. Carlisle Studholme, of Pentlnnd Rill Station, Waimate, whose death was reported from Melbourne last week, had gone to Melbourne on a visit, and suffered an attack of pneumonia, from which be died after a very brief illness. The deceased was a single man In the prime of life, being only 40 years of age. He was a shrewd man of business, and a keen sportsman and a deer stalker. It may be remembered that lie and Mr. "Percy Rhvorthy made a raid on big game in South Africa some years ago, and brought back a magnificent collection of heads and skins. Mr. Studholme bad also had a good deal of success on the turf, bis last success in New Zealand being the Great Easter Handicap, won by Reval in April last, and at the time of bis death he had Reval, Silent Way, and Xew York in Mr. Hobbs' string in Australia, Xew York having won two steeplechases within the last few weeks.
