•"Kf.D YESTERDAY. Ey jV'igraph.—Press Association. . Wellington, Nov. 10. I lie first ballot under the Military Service Act was commenced by the Government Statistician this morning, Mr. b. E. McCarthy, S.M., supervising. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke), the president of the Trades Council (Mr. J. Reardon), and press representatives were present. It is expected the balloting will conclude at! mid-day. ! To-morrow the Minister of Defence! states the names. They will not bo' published until gazetted.
