Stewart, and \V. <i. Morrison. Apologies were forwarded from Messrs. W. P. Kirkwood, F. Mackay and W. 1?. Brewer for non-attendance. The site for the new number board will be decided to-day (Thursday). Messrs. Young and Kirkwood were empowered to deal with the sale of privileges of the refreshment booths at the approaching race meeting. It was decided to advertise for a handicappcr for the second day's racing. Messv. 11. F. Taylor (Midhirst and •T. O'Neill (Ngaere) were , elected mem-1 bers. i

CENEIUH Twenty bowlers spent a. pleasant afternoon on the green to-day. Three rinks were in use, the scores in each instance being: Smith, Woodhead, Davis and Bic-kerton (skip), 31, v. Webb, Mills, Sanderson and Edgecombe (skip), Ifl; Paget, Porritt and Brown (skip), 27, v. (Lyons, Loveridge and Rend (skip), 10; McDonald, Curtis and Dixon, 2!), v. Visitor, Cottier and Sharp 21.

The Stratford Ladies' Patriotic Committee's funds received a lift along that merits attention. A donation of £2 10s lias been acknowledged from J. Kivett. It is surprising to record that no I'd was forthcoming for the ssla of privileges in connection with the Stratford A. and P. Show. It is probable that one of our hotel proprietors will under take the business.

The Presbyterian convocation hare been busy for months getting things prepared, for sale at their bazaar, which ; s being held to-day ar.cl this evening in the Foresters' I-Inll. The ladies have a gig display of goods in the several -tails, and the church funds should receive a lift along as a result of their untiring cll'oits. Messrs. 15. Masters and It. Wilkin--on, M.IP., were passengers by the Southern express to Wellington to-day. One of those present informs the writer that the Eltharn. Town Hall hslil a. good-sized audience last evening. The Hon. W. C. Carncross, M.L.C., occupied the platform, and during an address of two hours touched on many interesting topics in connection with his tour of Europe. I understand he has been requested to treat New Plymouth to a similar address. Mr. T. Lamason advertises full particulars of his usual sale at the mart to-morrow (Saturday). Those on the look-out for bargains should note contents of advertisement, and then attend the sale.

Mr. A. I). Stanley, secretary of the A. and P. Show, returned bv mail train last evening. He reports that several entries were received, and many promises secured. The weather to-day at Wanganui was very bad, heavy rain falling in the morning.
