Messrs. Burgess, Fraser and Co. wrote re kerosene store that had been offered to them, and stated that they would not require it in future.

Messrs. Bayly, Ogle and Co. made application for the store recently vacated by Burgess, Fraser and Co.—Resolved, that the oiler be accepted at an annual 'rental of £is. It was suggested that tlie store would look better with a coat of paint, and the matter was left in the hand; of the Works Committee. Mr. Lennon waited on the Board in reference to a dispute between his firm and the Board in letting the store recently sub-leased to themGby Burgess, Fraser and Co. Mr. Lennon explained the whole position to the Board from his (inn's point of view, and the Chairman, in reply, stated that, as one of the conditions of tlie lease to Burgess, Fraser was at the expiry of their term to 'hand over the building in good and tenanta.ble repair, lie bad. only asked Mr. Lennon to carry out that condition, seeing that it had been arranged by Mr. Lennon, Mr. Fraser. and .himself that, as Borthwick and Soils were still in occupancy at the expiry of Burgess, Fraser's lease, that the Board would release Burgess, Fraser, and look to BorthwicJc's for the repairs. However, as Bortlnvick's have failed to carry out that agreement, lie suggested to Mr .Lennon, that his firm should make an offer to the Board, and let them go on with the repairs. Mr. Lennon, in reply, said his firm could not do that. This ended the interview, and»it was resolved that the matter of fixing the rent for the two and a half 1 months that the shed was in occupancy by Borthv.'ick's he left in the hands of the chairman, with .power to act. A deputation from the East Beach Improvement Society waited on the Board to support an application, signed by 120 residents of Waitara East, for the Board tc cancel the agreement with the Borough Council for depositing rubbish on the Board's section near the beach. The spokesman (Mr. Buchanan) pointed out that the carters were dumping the rubbish ever a wide area, which w now unsightly and unsavory.—lt was resolved that the agreement with the Council be cancelled. The deputation also asked permission for control of the east fbreshore, similar to the existing agreement between the Board and the West Beach Improvement Society.—The application was granted. With regard to the conditions of leas,; i;t foreshore leases applied for by Borthw'ick and Sons, it was resolved that they be left in the hands of a subcommittee, consisting of -Messrs. Hine, Ogle, and Vaughan. The matter of attending to wharf '• flairs and all damage done by the recent flood was left in the hands of tlie | Works Committee.
