TARANAKI WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION.
MONTHLY MEETING At a meeting of the Taranaki W*r Relief Association, held on Monday) morning, there were present:—Messrs, J. E. Wilson (New Plymouth, ell airman), E. Beckbessinger (North Taranaki), T. B. Crump (Eltham), F. Mills (Hawera) t T. MePhillips (Manaiaj, I P. Kirkwood (Stratford), YV. E. Perci* val (Inglewood). ' It was resolved that, in view of thai present time being inopportune to approach the dairy factory computed * with regard to obtaining financial assistance, the matter be deferred. 1 Mr. MePhillips enquired if largq land-owners in Taranaki should sot be approached with a view to gelling land on reduced terms, so that the returned men should go on Taranaki land, which they were accustomed to, and not be sent to other districts. Mr. Mills expressed the opinion that land should be obtained on reduced terms. A large quantity, say, 100 acres, would not be necessary, as ho thought '2O or 2o acres would probably, be sufficient in most cases. Mr. Kirk* wood said that if a member of the Association officially approached landowners, and put the claims of the Asso- 1 ciation before them, he thought perhaps ' suitable land could bo obtained, and then the matter could be submitted to' the Government. After discussion, the Chairman arranged to see the Land Board Commissioner (Mr. Bullard), ascertain what land was available.
CASES OF RELIEF DEALT WITH. On the application of the Stratford representative, Mr. Kirkwood, representation was mado in a case for a grant of los a week until such time as a pension was obtained. It was resolved - that the action of the Eltliam Committee ho confirmed, and that tho pension bo continued. Mr. Kirkwood drew attention to tho claims of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and stated that other patriotic funds should not be overshadowed by the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. This rundi was already being largely drawn on,, and any financial assistance given would be not only appreciated, but well used. Mr. Kirkwood mentioned that ho thought enquiries should be made Whilst a soldier was in camp to see that the dependents of those left be-, hind were .provided for, fls there wera cases where those left behind were nob properly provided for. The meeting agreed to adopt some means of ascertaining the exact position of those left,' ' as the Association was in existenco to watch over the interests of soldiers' dependents when in camp or otherwise--' Post.
