A WONDERFUL PICTURE SUCCESS ■[•AST NIGHT OP "AT BAY." A crowded house greeted the fif' screening of the new programme at t1,.Empire Theatre last night, v her a fine selection of'pictures was shown. An interesting number.of the Pathe Gazitte, including pictures taken of the Somme fighting as recently as July, and an account of ihe further troubles ot Mutt and Je/t, the humorous comedian*., were included in the programme. An official war film showing our Naval Squadron in the Mediterranean ivai also careened. The leading: feature of the programme was the Pathe "Gold Rooster" drama ''At Bay," featuring the beautiful actreys, Florence Reed. The story touches upon the gambling vice in America, and depicts the unhappiness car !to Aline Graham, a. sweetly innocent girl, through the machinations of one Judson Flagg, proprietor of a select gambling -.aloori. Aline's father is District Attorney, and lie vows to rid his district rf the corrupting influence of these saloons. .Tmlson Flaggr, manages to have George Hi;n tcr, one of hi: associates, introduced to Aline, in order that he should nv.ks love to the- girl, with the sinister intention of ruining her good name and bringing discredit upon her father. Subsequently. Hunter, who if. a handsome young fellow, persuades Aline to marry iiim, and against her father's wishes she dee:, so, keeping her mariiaffe secret. As the result of a police raid o>. the gambling house, Hunter shoots Graham, wounding him, and in a freiuy Hunter rushes to Alinc's honre, where lie tells ho has reason for marryine liei, and under threat of e:;post\rc, exhorts her to give him a neeklase. He then clears out of the country, but being a woman. Aline just couldn't believe the man she loved could be ro base. She sends a pitiful letter t j him, which i? intercepted by Flagg, who uses it. to his own wids. How his intentions were frustrated, and Aline was married to a clever young lawyer, after having been -inspected of the murder of Flagg, makes an interesting contusion to the story. A fine must • cal programme was given by the. Empire symphony orchestra. "At Bay" will k screened for the last time to-night.
TO-MORROW. 'THE THIRD GENERATION.' This popular picture house has for to-n.orrow night, a powerful production by the well known London Film Co., on'titled ''The Third Ocneratirn." The picture describes the story of ft fucrt between iwo very old families in rurii England. Time and the romince of two of the younger members of the family supplies a solution to the difficulty and ends the trouble after many years, of exciting happenings. Edna Flngrath is the star, and she is ably supported by ii full cast of popular favorites. The sunports include a new number of the Topical Gazette and an ''Urban" smile-maker called "The New Waiter."
