stables (writes a contemporary scribe). As was to be expected the Derby success of The Toff caused him to be made a warm favorite, while Mr. Dalgety's pair Snub and' Wardancer were a little bet ter backed'than'lndigo. There was no delay at the start' Snub and Wardancer going off in front and leading The Toff by three lengths, with Indigo a similar distance further back. The race was a procession for a mile and three-quarters, the order at intervals being maintained till, half a mile from home. Then The Toff. made, a forward move, while War' dancer commenced to drop back. When fairly in the straight The. Toff had Snub's measure, but Indigo put in a strong run below the distance. He looked like making a race of it, but the three-year-old on being shaken up drew away again, winning in decisive style. It was an impressive performance, and the Boniform gelding had evidently been improved by his race in the Derby. The pace was solid, especially over the last mile and a half, and The Toff finished his task like a solid stayer. This, however, was no surprise, as he comes from a stout family, being a brother to Eligible and Bon Ten, both of whom were thoroughly at home over a long journey. Indigo was running on well at the end, his effort being a great improvement, on his two previous races at the meeting. Snub and Wardancer found the pace too solid at the end, but their placing confirmed their track form which always) made Snub appear the better of the pair.
