THE EMPIRE.
THE "GOLD ROOSTER" MASTER- [ - • PLAY, i "AT BAY" TO-NIGHT. A strong and attractive programme at the Empire to-night is headed by an unusual film, "At Bay," from the .stage play of the same name, which was a bis success in New York last season, and which will be seen in Australia and New Zealand within the next few mouths. The story of the picture is most enthralling, dramatic situations e.nd thrilling episodes following rapidly and. the icting of Miss Florence Reed -uid Charles | Waldron, both of whom were in the' i stage version, is wonderfully clear and j convincing. Mr. Waldron proved hi' . ability when in New Zealand as leading ! man in "The Squaw Man" and "The I Virginian." "At- Bay" is a drama of | great power and strong situations, Introducing the beautiful actress, Florence Reed, in an cxtiaordinary character, that of a woman, who, by a foolish infatuation for a scoundrel, risl.s lienor, and has to fight against a gang of blackmailers to save her reputation, and ever life itself. The picture, however, is not the usual "crook" dram.";, but rather a powerful indictment against many of the usages of society, relieved by some bright and clever comedy. Besides the excellent dramatic film, there are tune greatly interesting war Lopirals. "With the Mediterranean Squadron," the Pathe Gazette, and a Mutt and Jeff Cartoon comedy are also shown, the whole providing an excellent entertainment, which will be repeated for the last >iine tomorrow.
