The Government ordered the winding-up of 330 enemy firms. Half have been coneluded, excepting the collection of outstanding debts. In the House of Common;. Mr. Leslie F. Scott moved in favor of restrciting the sale of enemy properties in Crown colonies and protectorates to naturalborn Britishers and alt-Britisli companies. He disavowed antagonism to neutrals, but hedeplored the Government's method of selling the enemy Nigerian properties, and urged the possibility of businesses passing to enemy hands. The Government's course was in direct violaboom German trade, and spent much money in advertising th* sales amongst neutrals. The question of anti-trust legislation and safeguarding natives should wait until we bal secured the fruits of jthe war for the Empire. Mr. Ronald McNeill declared that the overnnsent's'course was in direct violation of tlie Paris Conference. Tht resolution conserving to the Allies their natural resources for post-war reconstruction dil not want to exclude Allies or neutrals, but he felt they should be Reserved for British ownership. Mr. A. H. Steel-Maitland stated that the Government war taking special precautions against enemy ownership. The Government's, policy , was in accorlance jFith the spirit of the Paris Conference.
